Deviled Eggs with a Kick from Kelli’s Kitchen

Today is very sunny, making me think of spring but it is windy and very cold reminding me it is still winter here. Basically that means a part of me wants to get outside and run, hop, skip, and jump or at least get outside and THINK about running, hopping, skipping, and jumping. The other part of me wants to stay inside and make some warm comforting food. I compromised by making a comforting dish that is very fattening (because I make it that way) and we generally only eat it at Easter. This year, I’m going to love it TWO times! Most of you have your own recipe, loved by your own family and you wouldn’t change for the world – like me – but I’m sharing mine so that if you ever get a hankerin’ for something different, I’ve got you covered!

Deviled Eggs with a Kick

Ingredients:

9 eggs, hard boiled – I don’t have any special tips on how to get them that way, just boil them till you think they are done then crack and peel them under cold water.
1 Tablespoon mayo
1 teaspoon mustard
Dashes of Hot Sauce – I use Cholula’s because it’s the BEST! This is the KICK I told you about.
½ teaspoon Dried Parsley
¼ teaspoon Cumin (secret ingredient!)
Salt and Pepper to taste.

Directions:

1. Slice the eggs in half and place yolks in bowl.
2. Mash up the yolks.

3. Throw in the rest of the ingredients and mix it up really well.

4. Pipe or spoon into the eggs.

You can let them chill if you like or eat them rather warm. Whatever, just eat them!
I have seen those dyed eggs all over the Pinterest so I decided to dye a few with food coloring. Mostly I saw them with pastels but I used some dark colors: Green, Purple, and Yellow. Not perfect but pretty darn cool!

I’m not a big fan of deviled eggs, but I think I might like these.

Yum! I like the idea of spicing it up! I’m a HUGE fan of hot sauce and spicy food… my family? Not so much?

We make ours basically like yours… minus the spices and hot sauce. Instead, I add a little extra mayo to make them creamy and some dill. They’re pretty yummy that way, too ๐Ÿ˜‰

That sounds good! I would like to try it next time with some dill – I have some in the pantry.

Make half spicy and half dill-y. That’s what I’m going to do ๐Ÿ˜‰ That way there’s something for everyone!

There is nothing like a good deviled egg! I love them so much I almost bought a cute sign for my chicken coop that said, “Wicked Chickens Lay Deviled Eggs”. YUM!

I LOVE deviled eggs! My mom is the only person I know that makes them. I bet the hot sauce really does give it that extra kick. Thanks!

Yum! I love eggs; hardboiled (my youngest calls those cracked eggs), over easy, deviled, egg salad. You can’t go wrong. This definitely made me crave some good deviled eggs ๐Ÿ™‚

One of my other blogger friends referred me to her site where she had some really spicy deviled eggs – Diablo Deviled Eggs – now I want some of those too! I’m afraid my resolve to only eat them twice a year is going out the window!

Looks cool! I love those colors although I’m afraid if I try them colored, the picky Dutch eaters here will be terrified. I remember making “pandan” chiffon cake which is green-colored. It tastes wonderful but my Dutch audience are always intimidated by the sight of a green cake, thinking that if they eat it, they will turn green too. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thank you. I have loved cumin my entire life – even before it was something mainstream. Dad was from New Mexico and when he cooked, he put it in everything….now I do too.
