Make these Southern Baked Beans for your next family gathering or potluck! via @KitchenKelli

Southern Baked Beans

We are having Baked Beans tonight at a family potluck.  We are making them 2 ways and I will share those ways with you so you can either make both or choose the one that suits your family best.  The only difference is whether you add cooked bacon or cooked sausage.  Both are delicious!

Southern Baked Beans

First, there are some important things to remember:  drain your cans of pork and beans before you put into the 9 x 9 dish.

Ingredients:

4 cans of Pork and Beans, drained

4 strips of Bacon, raw and cut in half — or 1 pound breakfast Sausage, fried crisp

1 medium onion, chopped finely

4 Tablespoons brown sugar

4 Tablespoons Ketchup

4 Tablespoons yellow mustard

Directions:

Pour drained Pork and Beans into a 9 x 9 dish

sprinkled onions, brown sugar, ketchup and mustard on top like this:

Now, add the bacon on top like this:

Or with cooked sausage like this:

Then mix it up really well.

Preheat oven to 350F

Cover dish with foil and cook for an hour then uncover and bake for another 15 minutes.

Let stand for about 30 minutes and serve!  These are yummy either way!

I’ve never had baked beans with sausage before. Don’t know why because I’ve added it to beans in soup. Thanks for the inspiration, I’ll have to give it a try.
