In John Deere Green......

Mr. Picky-eater’s birthday is today. He stayed home from work and made this. Another fund raiser for 4-H. He secretly loves it when I post these on my blog even though he protests the entire time! Thought I would put in a little humor with this one since we now officially look like Oliver and Lisa to all my readers!

John Deere Green lyrics
Songwriters: Linde, Dennis;

They were farm kids way down in Dixie
Met in high school in the sixties
Everyone knew it was love from the start

One July in the midnight hour
He climbed upon the water tower
Stood on the rail and painted a 10 foot heart

In John Deere Green
On a hot summer night
He wrote Billy Bob loves Charlene
In letters 3 foot high

And the whole town said
That he should have used red
But it looked good to Charlene
In John Deere Green

They settled down on 80 acres
Raising sweet corn, kids, and tomatoes
They went together like a hand and a glove

On a clear day from their front yard
If you look and know what to look for
Off to the east you can still read his words of love

In John Deere Green
On a hot summer night
He wrote Billy Bob loves Charlene
[ From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/j/joe-diffie-lyrics/john-deere-green-lyrics.html ]
In letters 3 foot high

And the whole town said
The boy should have used red
But it looked good to Charlene
In John Deere Green

Now more than once the town has discovered
Painting over, it ain’t no use
There ain’t no paint in the world that’ll cover it
The heart keeps showing through

In John Deere Green
On a hot summer night
He wrote Billy Bob loves Charlene
In letters 3 foot high

And the whole town said
The fool should have used red
But it looked good to Charlene
In John Deere Green

Ahh, paint it green, boy

In John Deere Green
On a hot summer night
He wrote Billy Bob loves Charlene
In letters 3 foot high

And the whole town said
The boy should have used red
But it looked good to Charlene
In John Deere Green

Love this! I’ll bet it’ll fetch a good price at the auction! I’ll be forever in debt of all those hard working people who support 4H! What a great organization. Not only has my son been able to raise an animal for 5 years but he is also involved in a 4H shooting club. He and his best friend are currently Number 1 and 2 in the state of Oregon. We are off to Albany next week to try to qualify for the Nationals. Thanks for all you and your husband do to keep this great organization going!

How exciting!! I know you son and his best friend will do very well! 4-H has been instrumental in our oldest son’s life. He credits it along with his dad for spuring him on to become an attorney. And, the connections you make, particularly if you go to a land grant school, are unbelievable! Lawyer Boy’s undergrad is in Ag Econ and he got to study one summer at Oxford in England through a scholarship supported by 4-H alum. They are everywhere and will help your son throughout his life. It is an excellent organization – one of the few that have maintained their integrity. Let me know how the Nationals go……..I can’t wait to hear!
