Three Envelope Slow Cooker Roast: A quick and easy slow cooker roast recipe that will wow your family with tons of flavor. via @KitchenKelli

Three Envelope Slow Cooker Roast

There are several Three Envelope Slow Cooker Roast recipes out there and we’ve tried them all – just so I could bring you the very best one!  It sure is a good one and a recipe you could throw in on the way to church Sunday morning and have ready in time for Sunday Supper. The gravy is to die for and the roast and vegetables are perfectly seasoned.

These are the three envelopes that you need:

Three Envelope Slow Cooker Roast

Three Envelope Slow Cooker Roast

Ingredients

1 envelope of brown gravy

1 envelope of dry Italian Dressing

1 envelope of Lipton’s Onion Soup Mix

Put the roast in the slow cooker with some cut up potatoes, carrots and onions.

Sprinkle the contents of all three envelopes on top – don’t worry about being even or equal just throw it on.

Pour over 2 cups of water or chicken broth.

Put the lid on and turn it on high for 6 hours or low for 8-9 hours.

It comes out so moist and tender – Mmmmmm…..

Ta-Da!

I am a little embarrassed about the photos but Mr. Picky Eater, Wonder Boy, and the Son-in-law attacked it quickly before I was able to get photos – so I salvaged what I could.  At least you know it’s really delicious because 10 minutes after that every single bit of it was gone!  So try it, you’ll love it like we do!  HEY!  Check me out along with other wonderful recipes at The Weekend Potluck!!

These three are really great – the ones with Hidden Valley Ranch dry dressing mix — we didn’t care for even though we love the dressing!

This was the most flavor filled pot roast I have ever had. I cut the roast in 2″ thick pieces cutting across the roast salted and peppered during the browning of the meat, I put 4 large dashes of Worcestershire sauce over the meat and then emptied the packets over the meat and I used 2 c.beef broth and cooked on low for 10 hours. It was very tender and the veg’s were well done but not mushy. This is a keeper.

I never know what to do with roasts! I honestly just started buying them to make for my family (a little late start for me on that part). This look great and perfect because I’m a slow cooker addict! Can’t wait to give this a try! I’d love for you to come link up with us over at Throwback Thursday link party!

Yes! And the best part is that the slow cooker will tender that meat right up! Eye of round can be tough sometimes — this will fix it!

Hi Sheila! Well — honestly I don’t really pay attention to the poundage – just the size. Big enough for it to take up all the room in the slow cooker but not so large that it touches the sides. that’s what size I would get! Hope that helps! Kelli

I understand the low sodium diet because I have to watch mine as well nowadays and this post was made before I was asked to start watching it. What I do is when we are having this, I watch my intake on the day before and day after much more closely so I don’t have to worry so much on that day. Thanks!

I would say about 3 pounds — I prefer “flat top” roasts, not those huge thick hunks of meat. Also one that is about the size of my slow cooker but wouldn’t touch the sides. Maybe 3 1/2 pounds. Something like that. I honestly have never paid attention to what it weighs — I just judge the size when I’m in the store.

I didn’t read through all of the comments. But instead of the dry Italian dressing mix, I use a package of Hidden Valley dry dressing mix. And I substitute either beef broth of beef stock instead of the chicken broth. Just mentioning this, in case someone might have these ingredients on hand and wondering about substitutions.

Hi Jocelyn — Yes, I put in carrots, potatoes and onions. Generally, I always put them right in with the meat and envelopes of stuff. I put the onions on bottom and then place to roast on top so it sits off the bottom of the slow cooker then all the rest all around. It works great for me!! Thanks!

I a pretty particular about my roasts. I choose the “old-timey” version of roasts that my Nana and mom always made – – they are called a flat- top roast. While it can be any size horizontally, it is no more that 3 inches thick and I prefer 2 inch thick roast. Just look around the meat section and you can usually find at least 1 that meets these dimensions! Thanks and good luck!!

        Suggestions:
        (1) Add above recommended roast details to your recipe. I scrolled thru many comments in search of info on type(s) of roast used.
        (2) Add the fact that you layer a bed of onion (slices/wedges?) beneath the roast.
Looking forward to trying this! Thanks!

    Hi Kelli,
I was planning on making Beef Pot Roast in my Crock Pot tomorrow for dinner but from another recipe that I had until I saw yours and read through the comments for variations and clarifications to questions that I had that have already been answered by you. The only other question that I saw and also was wondering is ; Can you add whole or sliced Mushrooms to this recipe?

    Addendum:
With regard to adding whole or sliced Mushrooms, I was also referring to fresh mushrooms as was Jennifer Carlson (posted back on February 13,2020). If fresh mushrooms could be added, would you suggest adding them at the beginning or the last hour or so? Please advise. Thank you.

Yes! You can add fresh mushrooms but I would add them sliced during the last hour — at least that’s what I do — If you add them at the beginning they will most likely meld into the sauce and you’ll never know they were there! It will be great! Enjoy! Kelli

Yes! Just put it in a dish or dutch oven, cover with foil or a lid and put in a preheated oven set to 350 for 20 minutes per pound of meat. Then take foil off for 15 minutes. Meat should register 175 F to be done.

Nice and easy. I don’t add the veggies as I have never liked crockpot mushy veg. I do add a splash of Worcestershire and use beef broth and serve over egg noodles.
A side of lightly steamed mixed vegetables and a salad makes for a perfect weeknight meal.
