It is so cold here this morning that I honestly do not want to even get out at noon and take Mr. Picky Eater lunch at the Flea. He has been diligently tending a booth for the last seven weeks. Generally, the Norman Flea Market is monthly but in December, January, and early February it is open 10 consecutive weeks. I thought this might be a good time to show you what I have done craft-wise over the last few weeks. First, you should know that I am about as disastrous at crafting as I used to be at cooking. I have been motivated of late because we are running out of stuff to sell at the flea. That’s good news! This isn’t our business so basically, Mr. Picky Eater is spending his time “contemplating his future” and selling off excess stuff we no longer want or need. Most of the booth folks are having a terrible time and dropping like flies over the last few weeks. Some, haven’t even made booth rent for several weekends in a row but that has not been our plight. Ours has been finding items to replace the ones we have sold each week. The buyers have only reinforced what I have suspected all along……….we have cool stuff!
We have tons of records because as you know, we decorate with album cover art. Sometimes, you have to buy an entire box of those things to get the one LP you want. Often the records are scratched and couldn’t be resold with any spirit of integrity. I went on Pinterest and found a couple of projects that didn’t look too hard to do. I didn’t particularly care for the original look so I got out the spray paint! I made these by melting the records in the oven and then painting them:
Here is the bowl:
Here is the platter:
I also made these bracelets:
I got these candlesticks in a free box at a yard sale last spring:
Turned them into these using a picture I saw on HGTV:
A few weeks ago when I went to get my hair cut, I went across the parking lot to the local Goodwill – I get my hair done in a small town I used to live in – and found this for $2.00 because it was ½ price day.
I turned it into this:
I’m still working on my vintage pattern project and hope to have it finished today in between making cool new recipes. BTW, I have a crock pot recipe YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BELIEVE! But it’s true….stay tuned!

Such fun you are having! Seriously. I am so sorry you live so far from me because we could have a lot of fun with this. I probably shouldn’t put this in a public forum, lest I be judged, but have you circled around your town in the early morning of heavy trash pick up day?
kalamitykelli
Hey Stacy! In our town, we have 1 month of Big Trash Saturday in April and again in October. Except for one time when we picked up something I couldn’t resist (we were on our way home from dinner) we have never cruised around. In fact, we are always the place the pickers came – they said we had really great big trash! ๐ I believe we will be cruising the neighborhoods – a different sector of town each week of the month – all during the month of April! The one item I could not resist was one of those news stand things that are plastic and very heavy usually at the front door of an IHOP or other restaurant that have those free apartment finder booklets in them. We brought it home, Mr. Picky Eater took all the decals off it, painted it crimson and in the “window” part of the pull-down we stuck an OU sticker on there. It stands by our front door and our postman puts our delivered boxes in there so thieves won’t see the box and steal it off our porch.
Stacy
Wow! So everyone just stockpiles it for six months? Must be a wonderful selection by then! In Houston they have heavy trash pick up in our neighborhood every two weeks. But you still see a treasure occasionally.
What a great idea for the newsstand box! What a shame you can’t find a ready source of those to redo! They’d be really popular at the flea market, I’ll bet.

yes, people keep stopping at our house asking if it’s for sale and my husband said one day someone is going to come at just the right time and he’s going to sell it! ๐

I think you are an amazing crafter. Everything is unique – no wonder it’s selling well.

Thank you Lillian! I’ve been working pretty hard at it – my mom is actually the crafty one so I guess after all those years watching her have finally worn off on me!

How on earth do you have time to do all this crafting, cooking and work too? As well as keeping track of your mom and your kids! You are one very super woman!
kalamitykelli
Thanks Debbie – I’m really just one very tired woman! ๐
noelleodesigns
Well done, I’m very impressed with your super savvy crafting skills!!
kalamitykelli
I can get my craft on – about once a decade! ๐ Wait till you see the vintage pattern envelope craft I’m doing – if it doesn’t look like a 5 year old did it, I will post. Oh who am I kidding? I’ll post it anyway!
Food Stories
I am not even remotely “crafty” so I’m bowled over by the stuff you made … Great job!
kalamitykelli
Thank you!

I love those record bowls. I need to make some for myself, haha. You’re so creative!
kalamitykelli
ha! That’s funny Pam – I don’t feel creative at all in THAT way. The bowls are really pretty and you really can’t see that it’s an album from the side view because the paint fills in the grooves.
pamasaurus
Have you thought about leaving them album-colored and just clear coating them? I’m sure people would love something like that, too!
kalamitykelli
I do have a couple – it only works well (at least here) if it’s a really great album like Pink Floyd’s the wall.

I am not sure what I like better the bowl or the candle holders! I love the bright colors you painted the candle sticks! I think something like this would look great on my sun porch! They would brighten my day!
Thank you for linking up to the In and Out of the Kitchen Party. I look forward to seeing what you bring next week!
I also look forward to your crock pot recipe!
