This is the second present I prepared for my co-worker’s birthday. This particular gift came about because of Rocket. He turned 10 months old recently and with that, he gained about 5 teeth nearly all at once. His parents transitioned him to “step 2” baby food. I’m not familiar with this as they didn’t have it 30 year ago and when I opened the jar, it smelled awful! We were having scrambled eggs and bacon so I minced some up and fed them to Rocket – he loved it! At about the same time, his other grandpa passed away and Rocket was staying here with PaPa for a few days where he ate chicken, biscuits and gravy, toast and other scrumptious delights! When it was time for him to go back home, Rocket did not want any trifling “step 2” food – he wanted REAL food and cbd oil for dogs! In fact, it was reported that when a spoonful of baby food came close to his lips, he made gagging noises and refused to eat it. PaPa got a big kick out of this information! So, my daughter was stuck with about ½ a bagful of perfectly good organic (Ella’s) baby food. She brought it to me so I could give it to a lady at work who has a grandson about the same age. That is, until one night on Pinterest.
I found a recipe for dog biscuits made with baby food. Seriously! As I said in my last post my co-worker loves her dog, George. I grabbed a pouch of Ella’s beef and vegetables and some organic whole wheat flour in these amounts:
Homemade Dog Love
2 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
2 (or a little more) Jars or 1 ½ pouches baby food
Mix it up adding more flour or baby food as needed to make a thick but not sticky dough:
Then roll it out onto a lightly floured clean surface until 1/8 inch thick.
Cut out your little shapes with cookie cutters or with a pizza cutter.
Place on a baking sheet and cook in pre-heated 350 F oven for 20 – 25 minutes.
Take out of oven and cool completely on baking sheet. I used parchment paper on mine.
I snuck two out for my boys and they both loved them. Co-worker told me this morning that George was extremely happy with “his” birthday present!
Now, I have something to do with all that baby food!

I don’t have a dog of my own, but these are too cute! May have to try making some for my friends’ pooches. ๐

What a great story! I know Dr.’s and Mom’s today get carried away with all this silly stuff about babies. We all turned out just fine without 10,000 rules of what you can and can not do. I love my dogs more than anything and this is a great recipe! I found you on Wednesday’s Extravaganza!

Thank you so much for dropping by – I am happy you liked the post and you are correct, we didn’t have a ton of rules and I seem to be just fine. ๐ Please come again!

This is pretty amazing. I didn’t realize you could make dog treats with baby food.
I made peanut butter dog treats for the puppies in my life for Christmas. I have photos…. I was just having issues deciding if it should go on the food blog or not, haha. I guess I’ll post them soon!

I’ve seen lots of posts on food blogs for doggie biscuits so I think you will be fine!!

I thought you were just kidding about it…

My first thought was that my pooch, Beso, would love these. And then I thought, “Hey, bet these would be great as teething biscuits for babies.” Has Rocket tried them?
kalamitykelli
What a great idea! I haven’t thought of that but I will try that on the weekend!

I love this! My poor dog is probably so bored with his treats because I refuse to buy that junk with the dyes and preservatives in it. Whenever I make him a homemade treat he gobbles it up. Thank for this recipe! ๐

You are welcome! The dogs are actually sitting here looking at me right now wanting more!

Hahaha. If I was your daughter I’d be pretty annoyed at you. ๐ But I’m all for homemade doggie treats!
kalamitykelli
Now that I feel more confident, I’m making your recipe next – the dogs are now demanding homemade treats! ๐

How cool. We have a new therapy puppy at school. I would love to surprise him and his human with some of these.

If you aren’t sure whether they have a wheat allergy or not (some dogs too) you can use the same amount of brown rice flour – I’m told it works just great!
