It has been a long time and a long year! Such little annoyances like life got in my way. It been almost a year since I made my first post to the blog and then I did nothing! But I am pleased to say that my Kalamity ways have earned me tons of county and state fair ribbons. I hope to post the pictures soon.
Winter is my favorite time to get items together for the year’s jam/jelly and canning. I spend time reviewing my old recipes and I also explore new recipes to see if I would like to try something new. This year I am concentrating on pickling. I want to make some pickles and keep them crisp. I think that is the hard part, right? Anyone got any good idea?
I also haunt flea markets and estate sales for canning items so when I teach I can offer these items to the students. I don’t make any money but it helps people experience canning without having to invest so much money in it! I have all my grandmother’s things so its not so expensive but to start from scratch can be a bit pricey! This weekend I hit a flea market here in Norman and got a canning jar lifter ($1), a funnel-type jelly strainer with wooden “pusher” and it was only $8!! Some people call these chinois’. I also got several 1/2 pint jars for this year’s canning.
I hope to fill this blog with tips and tricks to make it easier for you to can, even if you are a domestic disaster like me! Kelli
