Deep Dish Iron Skillet Pizza

Pizza Sauce


  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup onion grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 4 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes (this time I used fresh tomatoes and it was great!)
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil


  1. Put all ingredients in a large pot. Cook it until it reduces at least by half.
  2. You can leave it chunky, or smooth it out like I do with either a traditional blender or an immersion blender.

Recipe Notes

I only use about half of it because we like light sauce and I freeze the rest for another night.
